Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive at Dimapur Airport and travel to Khonoma Village
Khonoma Village Experience, after you arrive at the Dimapur Airport, you are driven to the Khonoma Village. It is a typical Naga rural area with a notable history. Currently, this entire region is called the Green Village. Probably amongst the well-known regions in Nagaland, Khonoma shot into fame after its residents displayed valour in resisting the British onset during the colonial days. Chiefly comprised of the Angami tribe, this rural region is located in the Kohima district. The villagers here are environmentally conscious ensuring that this entire region is hygienic, and has proper sanitisation facilities. En route, stop by at the local market if you want to purchase organic vegetables. The trip to the hamlet takes about three hours covering a distance of more than eighty kilometres from the Dimapur airport
Day 2
Khonoma village tour and Seikhakie trek
On the village tour, see and experience the unique lifestyle of the Nagas. Hunting is second nature to the Nagas and vindicating this fact is the many religious ceremonies based on the hunting theme. A land of exotic flora, Khwuno plant species is found in plenitude here. The village is geographically segregated into regions known as Khels. A clan represents a Khel and each of it has its autonomous administrative rules. You can request the Angami tribals to display some of their ethnic dances which are based on the war and hunting theme. After an enchanting tour of the Khonoma Village it is time to savour a traditional lunch. Post-lunch you trek through the wondrous nature trails to the Seikhakie camping region. This place abounds with nature’s finest attributes and is an ideal camping destination for enjoying bonfire evenings.
Day 3
Explore Dzukou
Dzukou Valley Visit, Khonoma Nature Conservation Visit, Tragopan Sanctuary Tour This day is lined up with trekking fun that will leave you pleasantly dazed. After breakfast, head to the Dzukou Valley. Located at an altitude of more than 2700 metres above sea level, it is a scenic destination that looks like a slice of paradise. Even though the trek to this spot poses challenges, it is worth the effort. You are rewarded with breathtaking scenery on location. You visit the salubrious Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary to see the very best of flora and fauna of this region.
Enjoy a sumptuous lunch in the company of exotic views of the valley. The combination of delicious food in such an exotic ambience is heart-filling. Visit the meandering stream that flows through and make splashes of joy in it. Be amazed at the rolling hills as it overlooks you throughout your visit to this place. Setup a camp at the valley to spend an overnight.
Day 4
Trek to Dzulekie
Dzulekie Village Tour or Waterfall Visit In the morning, it is time to bath in the warm embrace of nature. Enjoy a breakfast hearing the musical and myriad calls of the resident birds. At this point you have two options. You can either trek to the waterfall region which is about three kilometres from the camp. Another option is to take a village tour through the Dzulekie Village. Over here you will be warmly received by the local villagers also called as Morungs. Relax and unwind as you enjoy the hospitality of the villagers.
Day 5
Explore Benreu Village
Benreu Village Tour, Dzulekecie River Visit, Tepuki River Visit Wake up fresh with energy and brace yourself for another day of fun-filled trekking action. You are driven to the Benreu Village. On the way stop by at the mystical Dzulekecie River and some spend time there. En route you also visit locals who stay in the regions surrounding the Tepuki River. Try the local way of fishing for exotic river fish in their company. After lunch by the river-side drive up to Mt. Pauna Cottages and check-in.
Day 6
Explore Mt. Pauna
Pauna Peak Visit This day is dedicated to scaling the Pauna Peak which is Nagaland’s third highest mountain. Given the mountain’s impressive biodiversity, trekkers consider this region as a naturalistic museum. Be enthralled at the sights of wild animals, rare species of plants and herbs here. After lunch in the verdant backdrops of Mt. Pauna you return to your homestay.
Day 7
Return to Dimapur
After breakfast, it is time to return to the Dimapur airport. The enjoyable trip has given you a refreshed mind and a satiated soul.
